What we know
•There are less than 100 functioning libraries in Uganda, a country with a population of nearly 46million people!
•Statistics on early literacy not readily available
•Low income earners struggle to buy story books
•Lack of libraries in communities and schools impedes reading culture
•Lack of good quality books hinders interest in reading
•lliteracy impedes love of reading
•Being in schools does not necessarily mean one is literate; in 2015/16; literacy rates were at 49.9% for children primary three (P.3) & 53.1% in primary six (p.6)!
•Literacy extends beyond mere reading of text and numeracy
•Therefore producing literary products that promote reading; are relevant to the readers and relatable; we can make significant contributions to literacy and early literacy.
•There is need to help improve skills of teaching reading effectively too.
• Our products will include stories that touch diverse topics such as health literacy, mental health literacy, environmental, climate change literacy, financial literacy and many more etc.
